What If “Not Photogenic” Was Never True?

Introducing a free private video lesson and Hollywood Boudoir Style Guide for women who want to feel beautiful and confident.

Have you ever said, “I’m just not photogenic” or “I take terrible pictures”? Maybe you said it with a little laugh, hoping nobody would notice how nervous you feel when thinking about a camera.

Maybe you said it after someone showed you a picture where you looked stiff, uncomfortable, tired, older than you feel, or simply not like yourself.

Not photogenic.

Those two little words can do a lot of damage. They undermine who you are and how you feel about yourself. And so you disappear. Not from the world, but from the photos. You always hold the camera and are rarely in the frame, often appearing only as a surprise or an accident.

“Not photogenic” is a lie. A lie that can make you believe that being in great photos is reserved for other women. The women who always seem relaxed, confident, with the perfect smile.

But what if “not photogenic” was never really true? What if it was a cruel invention?

What if the problem was not your face? Or your body, your shape, or your age?

What if the real problem is that nobody ever showed you what to do?

The Camera Lies All The Time

If I give you the typewriter used by Stephen King, can you write a million-dollar novel? I can’t. But give Stephen King a notepad and a pencil, and he can write a million-dollar novel.

The tool doesn't make the result, the hands that use it do.

The first issue that people believe is that "the camera doesn't lie." It might not lie by intention, but it is no showing people as they really are. Who wields the camera decides how the photo will be.

Bad lighting. Awkward angles. Unflattering poses.

Photos taken when you were not ready, not relaxed, not guided, and not being photographed with any real care.

That kind of photograph can be cruelly convincing and make you believe, “That is what I look like.” I know. I have felt the same way many times. It seems reasonable. But it isn’t.

But maybe that is not what you look like. Maybe that is what you look like when no one has helped you.

Maybe there is another way of capturing you that is flattering. That shows you as you really are. That highlights your features in a glamorous way.

But how?

Being Photogenic Is Not What Most People Think

For years, many women have believed that being photogenic is a mysterious gift.

Some women have it. Some women don’t. What nonsense.

After years of photographing real women, I can tell you this: the women who look beautiful in portraits are not always the women who arrive feeling confident. In fact, more than 95% of my clients were nervous and told me that they were “not photogenic.”

That damn phrase is the one thing that I hear more often than anything else. And look at them. Real women, with many of the same insecurities you may have experienced. The only difference between you and them is that they found the courage to talk to me anyway. Often, after reading something like this.

Being photogenic is not magic. There are secrets to it.

And once you know them, the camera becomes much less frightening.

The Thought That Keeps Women Waiting

Many women are curious about a portrait session, especially something as intimate and elegant as Hollywood Boudoir, but they quietly talk themselves out of it.

“I need to lose weight first.”

“I need to feel more confident first.”

“I would not know what to do.”

“I would look ridiculous.”

“I am too old.”

“I am not the kind of woman who does this.”

Those thoughts sound practical, but often they are just expressions of fear, often originating from past judgment and shame.

It is fear trying to sound reasonable. And it sounds convincing, doesn’t it?

It tells you to wait. Wait until you are thinner. Wait until you are “better,” somehow.

Wait until your life is less busy.

Wait until you become the kind of woman who already feels beautiful in front of a camera.

But what if all of this is reversed? What if the portrait session is the very thing that helps you feel elegant, attractive, sexy, desirable, confident, and yes, photogenic? What if this is the medicine to dispel that “curse” that you have carried with you all these years?

The 7 Secrets

There are no secret “filters.” There is no editing trick that changes you from who you really are. Being photogenic is about you being you and loving your photos. As I said before, the whole “photogenic” idea is a cruel lie, and it can be dismantled easily once you know the secrets that make it possible.

That is why I created my private video lesson:

The 7 Secret Tips To Become Photogenic

In this video, I talk about what being photogenic really means, why so many women believe they are not, and how a woman can begin to feel more natural, expressive, and confident in photographs.

All good portrait photographers know these secrets, but they often keep them closely guarded. In a world where everybody has a camera, this is one of the last guarded secrets that the gatekeepers want to keep.

Once you understand them, your relationship with the camera will change, and you might even like being in front of it.

The Style Guide That Goes With It

I am also including my free:

Hollywood Boudoir Style Guide for Women Over 40

This guide was created to answer the questions women often have before considering a boudoir portrait session.

The secret questions. The ones that are hard to get answered. The uncomfortable ones. The ones that might reveal how little you know about what you are supposed to know.

First of all, there is no judgment. I don’t expect you to know anything about this. If you are curious about boudoir photos of you, that’s all that matters. The rest is up to me.

This guide is made to unlock the chest of secrets wide open and show you what goes on during a session before you even ask me a single question. You can read it in your own privacy, without anybody knowing that you are even considering such a thing.

And no, boudoir is not a “sin.” It’s not vanity.

It’s a way of reconnecting with that part of yourself that has been neglected for too long and is longing to be seen and appreciated.

This guide answers the questions and gives you suggestions. For example:

  • What would I wear?
  • Do I have to wear lingerie?
  • What if I do not want to show much skin?
  • How private is the experience?
  • What should I bring?
  • How do I prepare?
  • How does this work for a woman my age?

The guide is designed to help you explore the idea quietly, privately, and at your own pace.

With information, reassurance, and a sense of what is possible.
