Thrive: a philosophy of life

Have you ever met someone who instantly captivates your attention, not by boasting about their accomplishments, but by their genuine interest in others? That's Jeremy Stipkala for you. The first time I encountered Jeremy was at a Charleston chapter of 1 Million Cups. While most people were busy pitching their businesses, Jeremy was different. He introduced himself, engaged in meaningful conversations, and even extended an invitation to another incredible event I had no idea existed.

The Generosity of a Giver

Jeremy isn't just any Intellectual Property Attorney; he's the embodiment of generosity. His firm, Thrive IP, isn't named that way for marketing gimmicks—it's his life philosophy. Jeremy is in the business of safeguarding dreams, ensuring that his clients' painstakingly built intellectual properties are protected to the fullest extent of the law.

When the Defender Becomes the Defended

A few years ago, Jeremy found himself in a situation that tested his mettle. Someone was using the same name for a similar business activity and refused to cease even after Jeremy reached out. Instead, they launched a smear campaign against him. What did Jeremy do? He took legal action, but not before filing a court document stating he wished no harm to his opponent. In fact, he wished for her to thrive—just not at the expense of his own business. I've seen the court-deposited declaration, and it's unlike anything I've ever encountered in my years in business.

The Peacemaker's Approach

Jeremy's philosophy is simple: resolve disputes peacefully and avoid litigation whenever possible. He believes that this not only solves the problem quicker but also saves everyone involved a lot of money. Litigation is his last resort, never the first option. His generosity isn't just a trait; it's a practice.

A Man of Many Talents

Before diving into the world of Patent Law, Jeremy earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University. He's not one to do things halfway. When it became clear that his true calling was the law, he switched gears by attending the George Washington law school at night, talk about drive, and then spent eight years working at the country's largest IP law firm. With that solid foundation he then founded his own practice.
